Where is the line between a useful tool and an object becoming an idol? For many believers the Bible has become an idol. They believe it to be the Word of God instead of the useful tool that it is. The Bible is a useful tool which can be used to teach us a lifetime of wisdom, however, the Bible is not the teacher. The Holy Spirit is the teacher. The Bible was not authored by God but frequently inspired by God. The authors of the Bible did their best to record their experiences with God. As readers today, we must keep in mind that the authors of the Bible were only human and did not get everything right. Anymore than interpreters today get everything right. Ultimately, the Bible is not the final authority. God has final authority and always has. Rely on the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the truth that only He can provide. Do not let the efforts of men become an idol and give the writers of the Bible so much responsibility. Do not listen to Bible worshippers who use the Bible to wield power and influence over their followers. Listen to those who are sincerely being led by the Holy Spirit and see the Bible as the awesome tool that it actually is. Bible worship leads to religion not relationship. Be extremely grateful for the efforts of the authors, but do not love the Bible which is to say worship the Bible. Save your love for God and people.
